Opening the Hiking Simulator
We are using the Dice Game simulator in the screenshots, but the process is exactly the same opening the Hiking Simulator
Step 1.
Download: Click on the "Download For Mac" button and wait for the simulator to finish downloading.
If you are using a Macbook with one of Apple's newer M1, M2, or M3 chips, please use the "Download For ARM mac" button.

Unzip the model: Unzip the model by double-clicking it or right click and... see image below

Accessing the Simulator: Right-click on "Run Hiking Simulator App" to highlight it, and click on Open. The simulator should then open up.
Step 4.2
Accessing the simulator: Should you receive the below error pop-up with the message "GHS_mac" Not Opened, click on done

Accessing the simulator: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security, and scroll down to Allow Applications from. And click on Open Anyway

Accessing the simulator: When prompted to confirm, click on Open Anyway
Step 4.5
Accessing the simulator: If prompted, confirm your selection with your password or fingerprint.
Step 4.6
Accessing the simulator: You should now be able to open the simulator without issues (revisit step 4.1 on how to open the app)
Step 5
Give Java access to the simulator folder:
You you get the following prompt, click on OK to give Java access to the simulator. This is necessary to run the simulator.
Step 5
Launch the App: Double-click the "Hiking Simulator" app. A command prompt or terminal window will pop up, and after a few moments, the model will be loaded into your default browser
Now you can explore the Hiking Simulator!

Activating Your License
Step 1
Start the model and click "Start."
Step 2
Copy your unique key-request code and send it to
marketing@goldrattresearchlabs.com (or the person on the GRL team who is helping you). We will then generate a license key and send it to you.
Step 3
Copy the long license key we will send you, and paste it into the editbox at the bottom (in 3)
Step 4
Click "Activate" and restart the simulator, close it down and start it again. You should now have access to all features in the Hiking Simulator.
Now you are ready to delve into the Hiking Simulator!

License Activation - Troubleshooting
If you encounter the message "This license key seems invalid (License state found as EXPIRED). Please try again." while trying to activate your license for this simulator, please follow the troubleshooting steps below to resolve the issue.
Step 1
Check Antivirus Protection
Antivirus software can sometimes interfere with the activation of software licenses. Please try the following:
Step 1.1 - Temporarily Disable Antivirus Protection:
Temporarily turn off your antivirus and attempt to activate the license once more. Check your antivirus user guide for how to do this correctly.
Step 1.2 - After turning off the antivirus:
If successful: Great! Proceed to add the simulator as an approved app in your antivirus settings. This prevents future activation issues while keeping your computer protected.
If unsuccessful: Move on to Step 2 for further troubleshooting.
Remember to activate your antivirus protection after trying this troublshooting step.
Explanation
This might work for you because the antivirus software may be preventing the simulator from receiving or downloading the license file during the activation process. When it is disabled, you allow the simulator to "receive/download" your license.
Step 2
Check the Location Where You Unzipped the Simulator
#1 - Unzip Correctly:
When you first unzip the simulator, make sure you do it in the location you want to keep it. Moving the folder after unzipping can cause issues.
#2 - Preferred Location:
It's best to unzip the simulator directly into "My Documents" or a similar location where you plan to access it from.
Explanation
This might work for you because the simulators rely on file paths set during installation. Moving the files to or from different drives, after unzipping can break these paths, causing the simulator to malfunction while trying to "receive/download" your license. Unzipping directly into a permanent location ensures that all file paths remain intact.
